Paule Gobillard was a French Impressionist and the protégé of her aunt Berthe Morisot, who was proclaimed by Gustave Geffroy as one of the “three grand ladies of impressionism”, Marie Bracquemond and Mary Cassatt being the other two. Indeed, if Paule was born with the profoundest of desires to be an artist, she could have scantly been better suited than to have Berthe Morisot as a mentor.
